PSYCHOLOGIST, OWNER

Dr. Melissa Jermann

Dr. Melissa Jermann is a licensed clinical psychologist who specializes in OCD, anxiety, and trauma, with a unique interest in the role perfectionism plays in these struggles. She brings warmth, curiosity, humor, and a nonjudgmental presence to therapy, creating space for clients to explore their experiences with greater self-awareness and flexibility. In addition to her specialties, she has extensive experience working with relationship concerns, eating disorders, life transitions, chronic pain/chronic illness, ADHD, and personality disorders. She works with teens, adults, and couples.

  • She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Counseling Psychology from the University at Albany and began her career by volunteering at the NYU Family Trauma Program. She went on to earn her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Fairleigh Dickinson University, completing clinical training both in hospital and private practice settings, focusing on OCD, anxiety, and trauma. Dr. Jermann completed her predoctoral internship at the New Jersey Veteran Affairs Hospital, furthering her specialty in trauma. Dr. Jermann completed her postdoctoral fellowship at the Center for Cognitive Behavioral Psychotherapy under the mentorship of OCD expert Dr. Steven Phillipson. Dr. Jermann worked under Dr. Phillipson for four years throughout her doctoral training. She is now the owner of a private practice based in NYC and Connecticut and is licensed in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. She is also authorized to practice telehealth in over 40 states through PSYPACT.

  • Dr. Jermann employs a modern, evidence-based approach to treatment. She is an integrative psychologist who primarily relies on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which helps clients shift their relationship to distressing thoughts and emotions while aligning with their core values. She also incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), tailoring her approach to each client’s unique needs. Dr. Jermann will also utilize parts work, drawing from Internal Family Systems (IFS), for trauma. Her clinical expertise includes specialized protocols such as Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for OCD, Inferfence-based CBT for OCD, Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Prolonged Exposure (PE) for trauma, ACT for Chronic Pain, and CBT for Insomnia. Her approach often begins with in-depth psychoeducation and skill-building, followed by treatment protocols that include consistent homework, and gradually deepens into insight-oriented work to support long-term growth and development.

  • Outside of the therapy room, Dr. Jermann enjoys hiking with her golden retriever, Riley, as well as yoga, Pilates, baking, spending time with loved ones, golf, and reading. She values kindness, authenticity, humor, self-development, and lifelong learning. One of her favorite quotes is by Carl Rogers: “The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.”
